Where should a retailer start with AI?

A practical guide to choosing the first problem, establishing a baseline and testing readiness.

New editorial content for internal review. Ignite AI Partners.

Start with a recurring business problem

Choose a workflow or decision that matters to customers, capacity, quality or commercial performance. Ask who owns it, how often it happens and what is currently getting in the way.

Make the baseline visible

Record volumes, handling time, exception rates and any relevant quality measures. Document where estimates come from. A useful baseline lets your team tell whether a change helped.

Test the conditions for success

Check access to usable data, integration constraints and the decisions that need human approval. Include user adoption and the effort required from your own team.

Choose a focused next step

Compare the value, feasibility and dependencies of a small set of options. A proof should answer a decision, with clear criteria for proceeding, adapting or stopping.
