On Sunday 28th September 2025, at 10am, the Ignite AI team laced up their boots and took on the Snowdon Ranger Path, part of our Leicester to Kolkata challenge in support of the HOPE Foundation.
The Ranger Path is a tough but rewarding 8-mile (13km) route, climbing 936 metres (3,071 feet) to the summit of Wales’ highest mountain. While we’d heard it described as “relatively quiet,” we can confirm it was also “pretty bloody hard” (despite Craig being told it would only take three hours!).
The Climb
We set off in sunshine, warm at the bottom of the mountain, before walking up into thick, misty clouds that swallowed the path ahead. The climb became steeper and rockier with each turn, testing tired legs, but the atmosphere among the team kept spirits high.
The Ranger Path was less busy than some of the more popular trails, which meant we could enjoy the quieter stretches and take in the stunning views when the clouds parted. As the path merged with the Llanberis route near the summit, the crowds thickened, giving us a final push of energy to reach the top.
The Summit
At the peak, the sense of achievement was huge. Standing above the clouds, surrounded by fellow hikers, the team celebrated together – a mix of sore muscles, laughter, and the satisfaction of knowing every step brought us closer to our fundraising goal.
Why We Walk
This hike wasn’t just about the climb. It was about taking steps, literally, toward our bigger goal: walking the virtual 4,800 miles (11 million+ steps) from Leicester to Kolkata. Together, we’re raising funds for the HOPE Foundation, who run more than 60 life-changing projects for street-connected children and slum communities in Kolkata.
As one team member put it:
“The mountain was tough, but nothing compared to the challenges many children face daily. That’s what kept us going.”
